Miss Juliet Deans, daughter of Mr and Mrs Douglas Deans, “Rowallan," Darfleld, will leave Wellington at the end of next week by the Ruahine for a visit to England. .The following officers were elected at the twenty-sixth annual meeting of the Cheviot sub-branch of the Plunket Society, held recently: patronesses. Mrs G. R. McDonald, Mrs C. A. Mowat, and Mrs J. T. Read: president, Mrs F. N. Jackman; vice-oresidents, Mrs A. W. Sloss and Mrs R. White; treasurer. Mrs J. A. Rentoul; secretary, Mrs C. Hyde, K. Nicholas, M. Livingstone, and C. Denton. Mrs Le Roi, the guest speaker at the May meeting of the garden circ'e of the Canterbury’s Women’s Club gave an instructive talk on the culture of chrysanthemums. Mrs Gale, director of the circle, congratulated her on her outstanding success at the Chrysanthemum Society's recent show. Competition results were as follows: winner of the H. L. Darton Memorial Cup for best chrysanthemum blooms, Mr Nicholls; basket of mixed chrysanthemums and leaves, class A. Mrs Staples 1, Mrs Brake 2, Miss Thompson 3; class B, Mrs Nicholls 1, Mrs Archbold 2; white container of white chrysanthemums, class A, Mrs Staples 1, Mrs Brake 2, Miss Thompson 3; class B, Mrs Archbold 1; anemonecentred chrysanthemums, Mrs Bunt 1. Mrs Barlow 2. Mrs Hayman 3; best bloom in garden, Mrs Wade 1, Mrs Rogers 2, Mrs Hayman 3. Mrs A. T. Newth presided at the monthly meeting of the Riccarton branch o f the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. There was a good attendance and Miss Hughes led devotions. It was announced that there would be a dav df prayer at the end of May. As May is observed by the union as peace month. Major Simpson spoke on that subjec; and was thanked by Mrs Daly. Playing for the Momona Club. Dunedin, in the senior grade of the local women's hockey competitions, are five pairs of sisters, including one pair of twins. Have you enrolled for the CYCLAX 1952 BEAUTY -SCHOOL ... it commences Tuesday, May 13, and continues until Friday, May 23. Two sessions each day except Wednesdays and Fridays conducted by Mrs Irene Davis, world-travelled Beauty Consultant—direct from London. The School comprises a complete one hour lesson in Home Skin Care and Make Up and the 5s Lesson Fee will be donated entirely to the Christchurch Karitane Hospital.
