FARM PRODUCE EXPORTS

RELIEF OF STORE CONGESTION

CONFERENCE CALLED FOR TODAY

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 5.

The relief of cool store congestion by the quicker turnround of refrigerated ships will be discussed tomorrow at a conference called by the Minister of Labour (Mr W. Sullivan). The conference will be attended by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake) and representatives of the Meat Board, the Dairy Board, and Federated Farmers. Mr Sullivan said to-night that there had been a discussion about 10 days ago on the situation at Napier and Bluff, and as a result three or four more ships had been sent to each port to help to lift the accumulation of produce awaiting export.

The end of the export season was approaching, and he had thought the problem had been settled with the easing of the congestion at those two ports, continued Mr Sullivan. It appeared. however, that killings had been unusually heavy, and that other ports were now in difficulties because ol insufficient refrigerated ships.

The overseas shipping companies had been most helpful in overcoming the difficulties over lifting produce for export, Mr Sullivan added. If necessary, he would confer later with representatives of the shipowners and the watersiders.
