The society, in its report for 1951, said it had tried last year to build up awareness among the public and doctors of the need for early diagnosis and treatment. A public education project included the use of pamphlets, films, radio and television broadcasts. About 700,000 persons were now under treatment for cancer in the I United States, said the report. About 70.000 lives had been saved last year, and 215,000 patients died.
