WAR POTENTIAL OF N.Z.

BRITISH EXPERTS’ SURVEY CHRISTCHURCH VISIT THIS WEEK Two armament production experts from the British Ministry of Supply will visit Christchurch this week to continue their survey of New Zealand’s war potential. They are Mr W. J. Terry, who was Director of Weapon Production towards the end of the last war, and Mr S V. Woolley. While in) Christchurch Messrs Terry and Woolley, who will be accompanied by the district officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce (Mr H. F. Larsen), will make a detailed survey of engineering and other industries to find how their output could assist in Commonwealth war production. They have already spent several weeks in Dunedin and Invercargill. Messrs Terry and Woolley arrived in New Zealand towards the end of March and are expected to be in the country between six months and a year. Their visit is being made under the aegis of the New Zealand Joint War Production Committee, and is the outcome of a recent brief visit by the Director-General of Armaments Production (Mr V. A- Lambert). A full report will be made to the New Zealand authorities by Messrs Terry and Woolley before they leave the Dominion.

Both Messrs Terry and Woolley have had wide experience in war production. Mr Terry was organising production in industry for weapons early in the last war, and was made a member of the Order of the British Empire for his outstanding work. Mr Woolley visited India, Australia, and South Africa during the last war while engaged on armament production work.
