LETTER WRITTEN TO JUDGE
“WHOLLY WRONG ACTION” (New Zealand Press Association) _ DUNEDIN, May 5. _ The action of a Christchurch woman in writing to him about one of two prisoners who were appearing before him for sentence was described by Mr Justice North in the Supreme Court to-day as wholly wrong. pie prisoners, Thomas Mervyn Johnstone, a farm hand and dairy factory worker, and Donald Keith Henderson, a farm hand and truck driver, both aged 17, were appearing on sentence on two charges of unlawful conversion of motor-cars and two charges of breaking and entering. “I have received a communication from a woman in Christchurch aboui one of the prisoners, and it is important to indicate it is wholly wrong, however well meant, to address such communications to a Judge,” his Honour said. “I am sure the person concerned was actuated by nothing but proper principles, but such a com munication should have been addressed not to me, but to the probation officer.
