American Sabre jets, outnumbered two to one, fought 90 Communist MiG’s to-day in two battles over Korea. * . • • The sth Air Force said that five enemy planes were damaged. United Nations infantry assaulted a Chinese-held hill in the Imjin river sector of the western Korean front yesterday, killing or wounding 38 soldiers with the aid of mortars and artillery. . American tanks moved out over the thawing ground north-west of Chorwon in the “iron triangle” sector to destroy nine Communist bunkers and damage 15. . Elsewhere along the 155-mile battlefront, action was limited to patrols. A heavy cloud cover limited visual attacks on the North Korean roads by Allied bombers and fighters, but 18 enemy lorries were destroyed at points where breaks in the clouds allowed low-level strikes. Nine Superfortresses dropped 5001 b bombs bv radar on a Communist traffic bottleneck 20 miles east of Sunchon.
