VISITOR FROM SCOTLAND

INTEREST IN WOMEN’S INSTITUTES Mrs Esther L, Anderson, a member of the Scottish Women’s Rural Institutes, will arrive in Christchurch on Friday in the course of a tour of New Zealand, during which she will visit branches of the Federation of Women’s Institutes and gain knowledge of their activities. During her two months’ stay in the Dominion she will observe how New Zealanders live and work. The wife of a Fortrose doctor, Mrs Anderspn lives in Ross-shire, in the north of Scotland. She has been county secretary and a member of the central council of the Scottish Rural Women’s Institutes and has an active interest in all branches of activities. She is president of the Fortrose and Rossmarkie branch. Other interests include Red Cross woi*, arranging the blood transfusion service in her area, and social welfare work. She is a member of the Electricity Council for the north of Scotland. Mrs Anderson’s visit is being sponsored by the Imperial Relations Trust. She will spend four months in Australia after her New Zealand visit. She will be representing 66,000 members of her organisation. Mrs M. Prebble (president of the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes) has made tentative arrangements' for Mrs Anderson to visit points of interest during her stay in Christchurch. On Friday afternoon she will meet members of the committee of the Canterbury Federation at afternoon tea, and on Saturday she will visit Lake Coleridge to see the hydro-elec-tric station. On Monday it is planned that Mrs Anderson will visit the Red Cross centre in Christchurch, the Glenelg Health Camp, and the Karitane Hospital at Cashmere, and on Tuesday she will attend a general meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Federation. She will continue her topr ’on Wednesday.
