Egypt Seeks Settlement With Britain

(N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) CAIRO, February 20. The Prime Minister (Aly Maher Pasha) said to-night that Egypt must enter into speedy negotiations with Britain.

He said he favoured a collective security pact with the Western Powers. Aly Maher Pasha said he was anxious to secure the evacuation of the British forces and the unity of the Nile Valley under the Egyptian Crown. “This can only be achieved through speedy negotiations.” he said. The Prime Minister, who was speaking after receiving a student delegation, added that calm and tranquillity must prevail in the country when the negotiations were resumed with Britain.
