PEKING RADIO CHARGE

FLIGHTS BY U.S. AIRCRAFT

TOKYO, February 21. The Peking Radio yesterday charged that the number of provocations by United States planes over Manchuria “is growing in seriousness.” The broadcast claimed that American planes flew into Manchuria in 51 different formations in 40 days up to February 9. The radio asserted that the planes “bombed and strafed peaceful civilians in a most barbarous way,” but did not say when or where. A jet aircraft, believed to be Allied, dropped two bombs to-day near the Imjm river bridge used by the Allied truce negotiators in their trips to Panmunjon. Several eye-witnesses said that the aircraft was an FBO Shooting Star type jet. . , It swooped low over the bridge and straddled the span with two bombs. One failed to explode, and an attempt is being made to recover it for identification. Another bomb exploded within 25 feet of the bridge. The aircraft did not strafe during the bomb run and no one was injured.
