AT GERALDINE TO-MORRROW

INGLEWOOD MAY WIN CUP CHANCE FOR CASACANDO IN SPRINT Although Inglewood failed badly the Eclipse Handicap at New Brighton last week, she will probably be a warm favourite for the Geraldine Cup. the principal event at the Geraldine Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Orari to-morrow. . Inglewood was most unlucky in a number of her races early in the season, but she came into bar own at Umaru on January 19 whenshe easily beat Helen Grattan in the Winchester Handicap. Inglewood has shown plenty of stamina in her .races. She will be better placed on'l2 yards to-morrow than for some time. She is owned by Mr F. Watson and is trained by J. L. Behms. She is a four-year-old mare by U. Scott from Purple Patch, the dam also of Loyal Bey. Countless, Ingle Belmer, Inherit and Direct Link. Most opposition to Inglewood may come from Chief Lochiel. which also failed in the Eclipse Handicap at New Brighton last Saturday. Chief Lochiel has shown great promise this season and he has won four races. With a little more luck, his record would have been much better. Owned by Mr W. T. Lowe, he is trained at Tlnwald by D. L. and F. L. McGregor. He is a five-year-old half-brother by Light Brigade to Globe Direct and Safeguard. Chief Lochiel is a grand stayer, and he should give a good account of himself at Geraldine. Dourglo has been a disaepointment in the last few weeks. However, ne is capable of better showings, and may make amends to-morrow. The Springfield Globe gelding showed good form as a stayer last season, and should run out the two miles solidly. Casacando has not won a race this season, but has -had some worthwhile nlacings. He may surprise to-morrow. Jeopardy, Affectation, Prince Gaillard and Tiny Scott may do best of the others, but their prospects of beating Inglewood or Chief Lochiel do not look particularly bright. Chance for Chippewa Chippewa, a six-year-old gelding by Noble Scott from Deep River, owned and trained at Tlnwald by S. R. E. Townley, is expected to be the hardest to beat in the Temuka Handicap. Chippewa has not run a really bad race this reason, and from the front mark to-morrow he will have bright prospects. Sydney Scott, Gift, and Doncaster Lass will form a strong bracket, which will be very popular with place investors. All three have been racing well lately, and one of them at least should reach a place. Sydney Scott is a good type of four-year-old stallion by V. Scott • from Colleen Travis, the dam also of Doncaster Lass. He is owned by Messrs S. A. Bremford and W. P. Pateman, and is a member of J. Young’s team at Halswell. The other two In the bracket are trained at Levels by J. M. Williamson. Moreta has been racing more generously lately, and she may surprise. Defendant, Defiance. Klllamey Lady, and Silver Circle look to have the best prospects of the remainder. Casacando in Forta The Casanova gelding, Casacando, which has had five placings in his last 11 starts, will be well suited by the mile and a quarter journey In the President’s Handicap. Casacando has been working keenly at Addington recently, and he should be a class above most of his opponents. Affectation has not been placed this season, but the Dillon Hall mare has finished on, right up with the placed horses, in most of her races recently. Last Saturday she came from a long way back in the early stages of the -race, to finish fifth in the Eclipse Handicap. Her New Brighton owner-trainer, F. C. Bodger, has her looking very well. Prince Gaillard has shown speed in his races up to one mile and a half, and he will be well suited by the sprint distance. He is very fit. Ayrlan/’s Pride. Helen Grattan. Wentworth, and Jeopardy have the ability to race well, and they should do best of the others. The Minor Events Gift, which has had one win and three placings in his last five starts, may win again in the Improvers’ Handicap. The Bruce Walla gelding is a useful stayer. His recent performances have been better than those of most of the horses opposing him. Defendant has not raced since she graduated from maiden company at Timaru on January 19, and she should race well. Ferry Pilot, Sydney Scott, and Spring Princess may do best of the others. Bruce Likely, Novaro, and Windydale form a likely trio in the Introductory Handicap. Black Pegasus and Merry Message have plenty of ability, and they may offer most opposition. Gold Relic, which finished third in the Maiden Handicap at New Brighton last week, will probably be favourite for the First Waihi Handicap. Loraine, Credit Chief, Silver Lace, and Supreme Command may do best of the others. Merry Message, Bruce Likely, and Witchcraft may show up in the Stewards’ Handicap, a race for staying trotters. There may be a surprise in this race, and Deportment is the one most likely to upset calculations. Empyrian, Titania, and Laurel Hall are favoured in. the Second Waihi Handicap, in which Dahdiprat and Windsor Maid may show up. The double will be run on the Geraldine Cup Handicap and the Temuka Handicap. Wha' Hae has been withdrawn from the First Waihi Handicap. Selections are:— 11 a.m.—lntroductory Handicap: Bruce Likely, Novaro, Windydale. 11.45 a.m.—First Waihi Handicap: Gold Relic, Loraine, Credit Chief. 12.30 p.m.—lmprovers’ Handicap: Gift, Defendant, Ferry Pilot. 1.15 p.m.—Geraldine Trotting Cup: Inglewood, Chief Lochiel, Dourglo. 2 p.m.—Stewards’ Handicap: Merry Message, BruCe Likely, Witchcraft. 2.45 p.m.—Temuka Handicap: Chippewa, Doncaster Lass-Gift-Sydney Scott bracket, Moreta. 3.30 p.m.—Second Waihi Handicap: Empyrian, Titania, Laurel Hall. 4.15 p.m.—President’s Handicap: Casa u cando, Affectation, Prince Gaillard.
