SUMNER GALA AT SCARBOROUGH
NO MORE PERMITS IN MEANTIME CLIFTON APPLICATION APPROVED No further permits for galas on the site at Scarborough will be granted in the meantime by the reserves committee of the City Council. The chairman of the committee (Cr. M. B. Howard, M.P.) reported at the council meeting last evening that a deputation of Scarborough residents had waited on the committee at its last meeting in support of the petition presented to the council on January 28. Cr. Howard said the committee appreciated that the continuous noise from loudspeakers and musical devices could be distressing to nearby residents. Alternative sites were being considered and a further report would be to the council. An application for permission to hold a gala at the Clifton end of the Sumner beach at Easter, on the Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, had been approved.
