AUSTER CRASHES IN DENSE BUSH

(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, January 18 The body of Mr John R°y c e Za *" e J’ aged 41, has been found in the burned out wreckage of the Auster anci which disappeared on a . Akau to a landing strip in Whatawhata was found in an area of dense bush about one mile and a half from the head of the Karakariki valley road by a searching aircraft piloted by Mr' D. A. Greig, of Auckland about 1.30 p.m. to-day The body was found in the aircraft by Constables J Mills and G. A. Spice, of Hamilton From first light this morning aircraft belonging to the James’ Aviation Company scoured the route which the missing Auster was travelling when it disappeared. A report was received this morning that black smoke had been seen rising from an area of bush country at Karakariki some time after midday yesterday. The aircraft went over the area thoroughly and a police party comprising Constables Mills and Spice left for the area in a radio patrol Mr Greig landed to get a definite bearing on the location of the smoke reported. He took his machine back into the air and soon after discovered the wreck in a small burned patch of the thick bush. He landed near the nearest telephone and called his head office. Mr Zainey was a married man with three children and lived in Fairfield load, Hamilton. He was born in Auckland and educated there. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. early in the Second World War and was an instructor almost throughout the war. Later, he was a pilot with No. 41 Transport Squadron, R.N.Z.A.F. He had completed more than 5000 flying hours and had flown 1000 hours on aerial topdressing operations without damaging an aircraft. Because of his ability and experience he was appointed operations manager ot the James’ Aviation Company. FATAL ELECTRIC SHOCK FATHER AND SON . KILLED (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, January 18. A 44-year-old lorry driver. David Augustus Charles Hayes, of Makarewa, and his son, Thomas Edward Hayes, aged 16, were killed by an electric shock at Makarewa yesterday. A second son, David Bruce Hayes, aged 17. received a severe jolt, but his condition is sati'factory. The accident occurred about 11 p.m. when the father and his two sons were lifting a 36ft pipe from a bore on their small farm. The pipe came free suddenly, over-balanced, and the hooked top caught in the power lines which run along Flora road next to the farm. David Hayes managed to kick himself free from the pipe, but the other two were unable to let go and lost consciousness. Neighbours telephoned a doctor and ambulance and Immediately applied artificial respiration. At the Southland Hospital, working in relays, five doctors, the two ambulance men. sisters and nurses continued artificial respiration for more than two hours but there was no response. MOTOR-CYCLIST INJURED Head and knee injuries .were suffered by Mr Graeme Henderson, of 39 Paparoa street, when he rode his motor-cycle into the back of a parked car in Rapanui road last evening. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 9.45 p.m. His condition was later reported to be satisfactory. VAN OVERTURNS Graham Ross Eder, the driver of a small van, suffered a compound fracture of an arm when his vehicle struck the pavement and overturned at the corner of Russley and Ryans roads last evening. Mr Eder, who lives at the transit camp at Ha&ewood. was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital early this morning. His condition then was reported to be satisfactory.
