CURRENT NOTES

Mr and Mrs J. C. Forsyth (Watfordstreet), who have been overseas for several months, have returned to ■ Christchurch. Miss Patricia Stevenson (Mersey street), who has been visiting relatives in England and Northern Ireland for more than a year, left Tilbury on December 19 in the Orcades for Sydney. She hopes to return to Christchurch at the end of January. Miss Stevenson, who is a member of the teaching staff of the Christchurch Girls’ High School, spent several weeks sight-see-ing on the Continent. A comprehensive wardrobe is to be shown in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch by one of Britain’s bestknown fashion and photographic models, Barbara Goalen. She will visit the Dominion at the end of January and the beginning of February in the course of a world tour with the textile designer, Miki Sekers, whose fab- t rics are used by leading fashion houses. —London, December 28. Princess Elizabeth has sponsored four new colour names for the British Colour Council. The colours are Tudor cream. Edinburgh rose, Pacific yellow, and wildflower blue, and are expected to be included in her Australian and New Zealand tour clothes. Edinburgh rose is a flower-fresh pink and Pacific yellow resembles wattle or mimosa. One of these shades may become the leading fashion of 1952. The dark green worn so successfully by the Princess in Canada is now a main fashion for winter, including evening dresses. Proof that there is still romance in the rain is seen at a London store, which is showing a fairly large range this season. Hardly any of the models spell “raincoat” at the first glance and all are designed to bring a breath of spring fashion cheer to showery days. “Broadway” in shower-proof light grey flannel could be worn with a feminine flourish in any broadway or high street. Cut on full, swaggering lines, the tiny mandarin collar is popular and flattering. Three big cup-shaped patch pockets are cleverly placed and decorated with buttons. The new heel interest in hosiery in the United States this season is being featured for Australian women. The two black parallel lines which run round the heel of the stocking give the impression of a slimmer ankle, and also make low-heeled shoes look higher in the heel. This means that women can do without a particularly high heel, and still look smart. The lady editor and assistant' lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledge and sincerely reciprocate further Christmas and New Year greetings from the Papanui-Waimairi Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, the Catholic Women’s League, the president (Mrs Alfred Sanderson) and members of the Friends of St. Helens Association, and the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. Sunproof Cream by Cyclax ... to encourage sun-tan without burning. This perfumed, noh-greasy cream is ideal for this purpose . . . also an excellent powder foundation. Priced at 12/11. Available at Ballantynes Cyclax Counter. —Advt.
