PRIZES PRESENTED AT MAIN SCHOOL The Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr F. G. Briggs), who is chairman of the committee of the Lyttelton Main School, and the headmaster (Mr A. L.-Edward), both referred at the prize-giving yesterday morning to the need for additional classrooms at the school.
The pupils of one standard had been using a Sunday schoolroom, which was a considerable distance from the school, as a classroom they said. They appealed to Mr H. R. Laxe, JSf.P., to endeavour to ; have at least one classroom provided immediately. In reply, Mr Lake said he would transmit the request to the proper authority, and would see if something could be done to alleviate the position. The dux medal was presented to Brian Thompson and the ptoxime accessit to Adrienne Perkins. Ray Paulger was awarded the Mayor’s citizenship prize. Mr L. Smith’s prizes for gardening were won by Arthur Beckett and Robin Loader. West Lytelton School The West Lyttelton School break-up concert and prize-giving was held in St. Saviour’s Hall on Thursday evening. Mr F. J. Barrett presented prizes as follows:—Dux girl: Lily Bumip. Dux boy: Peter Couch. Standard 1: Shirley Ornsby, Pamela Couch. Standard 2: Kevin Wearne, Richard Anderson. Standard 3: Janette Buchanan, Robert Tikao. Standard 4: Helen Wales, Melvyn Schenkel. Form I: Shirley Buchanan, Barrie Fife. Form II: Joan Sinclair. Special project prize: Elizabeth Wood. The Mayor’s citizenship prize: Phillip Miller. Voyce memorial prize for citizenship: Elizabeth Wood.
