BRITAIN AND GERMANY
CORDIAL MESSAGES EXCHANGED
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, December 13. Cordial messages were exchanged between Mr Churchill. Mr Eden, and Dr. Adenauer after the return home of the German Chancellor.
Dr. Adenauer wrote to Mr Churchill: “The talks which you "had with me. and which primarily concerned the new new shaping of Europe and the great task this imposes on Germany and Great Britain, have shown that we are in full agreement on all decisive questions. The hospitality which you and the British Government extended to me marks the beginning of a new epoch in British and German relations, based on mutual understanding, loyal co-operation, and confidence.” Mr Churchill replied that he shared Dr. Adenauer’s view that their meeting “has been of great service to our common work for the consolidation of Europe and strengthening of world peace. In the great work you can count upon the co-operation and goodwill of the British Government and people.” Dr. Adenauer wrote to Mr Eden: “I am convinced that the days I spent in England will help substantially to place British and German relations on a new basis of co-operation and trust, and that this will first and foremost serve to ensure peace in the world.”
