BURGESS, Secretary. 5887 WOODWORK AND METALWORK TEACHER TRAINING SCHEME.—Applications are invited from qualified tradesmen who contemplate entering the teaching profession as teachers of woodwork or metalwork in Manual Training Centres or Intermediate or Post-Primary Schools. Applicants should have had a good general education, preferably to School Certificate or University Entrance standard, and should have served an apprenticeship or its equivalent in some branch of the woodworking or metalworking trades. Successful applicants will be given a course of training in Auckland. The course will be for a period of one year, and a liberal allowanc ewill be paid to appointees. The next course is due to commence on Ist February, 1952. Applications now close on 9th October. Candidates will be required to show evidence of advanced studies in the particular field in which they wish to specialise. In music, applications will be considered from composers, executants, teachers, orchestra players and scholars capable of research in some branch of musicology; and in drama, from actors, producers, technicians, stage designers and tutors. Candidates may be required to attend an audition in Wellington in December. Applications for ballet bursaries will be called for next year, and will be the subject of separate advertisement later. The equivalent of eight bursaries of £360 per year for two years may be awarded, on the basis of five bursaries in music and three in drama. The equivalent of two bursaries in ballet, of the same value, will be available for award in 1952. Intending applicants should write as soon as possible to the Secretary for Internal Affairs, P.O. Box 8007, Government Buildings, Wellington. C. 1., indicating the field in which they wish to apply.
