THE ELECTION INCREASED MAJORITY FOR GOVERNMENT

Lyttelton And Napier Gained

50 NATIONAL SEATS ON FINAL COUNT

The National Government is assured of 50 of the 80 seats in the House of Representatives. The gains were shown when final count figures were announced last evening. The National Party gained two seats —Lyttelton and Napier—held by the Labour Party in the last Parliament and retained on the preliminary count at the General Election on September 1, and retained Palmerston North, which on the preliminary count was lost to Labour by two votes.
