PORTSMOUTH LEADS FIRST DIVISION (N.Z. Press LONDON. Sept. 10. Bolton Wanderers suffered their first defeat of the season at Tottenham on Saturday, and It cost them the first division lead. Portsmouth now lead that division on the goal average. This season has started evenly and the first three teams of the first division. Portsmouth. Bolton, and Manchester United, all have 11 points. Sheffield United leads the second division with 10 points, closely followed by Luton, who also have 10 points, and Nottingham County with nine. Gateshead has replaced Mansfield at the top of the table of the third division (northern) with 10 points. Carlisle and Oldham, the only two unbeaten teams in the league, are second and third in this division, with nine points, and have played one match fewer than Gateshead. The third division (southern) is still led by Plymouth Argyle with 12 points, followed by the London team, Leyton Orient, with 11. Wrexham, the only team without a point last week, had a home win on Saturday against Halifax.
