The ceremony was held under the blaze of Kleig lights at the San Francisco Presidio. " ® * The guns of the old Spanish fortress, which is now the headquarters of the United States 6th Army, fired a sahrte ™ the delegates drove through a guard of honour to the Service Club for the signing ceremony. service Mr Spender signed first, then Sir Carl Berendsen and the United States delegation, headed by Mr Acheson. 1 Each of the delegates signing the pact was presented with a gold-mounted fountain pen. Others signing for the United States were Mr John Foster Dulles, Republican adviser to the State Department and Senators Alexander Wiley and Johir J. Sparkman. ’
