Royal Tour Medals His Majesty the King has requested that six medals be struck for the forthcoming Royal tour. They will represent Gibraltar, Malta, Aden, Ceylon, Australia, and New Zealand, and will be presented to senior officials in each country. The medals will show the King’s head on one side and leaf designs on the other.—London, Sept 1. High Rainfall in Auckland Auckland’s rainfall of 8.58 in last month was exactly three times as great as that of August last year, and more than twice the average rainfall for August. For the last week of the month a long, narrow trough of low pressure extended from the Australian Bight across the Tasman Sea and the North Island of New Zealand, and this caused the bad weather which persisted during that period. During this week 4.47 in of rain fell in Auckland —more than half the month’s total. Wide Streets For Petone
A four or six-lane roadway on the Petone Esplanade is envisaged by the Petone Borough Council, according to the Mayor, Mr J. Huggan. At a Petone sitting of, the Town Planning Committee Mr Huggan said that as buildings on the Esplanade came into disrepair, the council intended to buy land to widen the street. It might take up to SO years, he said, but when the present Pipe Bridge had been replaced, the need for street widening might become more pressing. Whakatane’s Triplets
The Whakatane Rotary Club has given £lO to open a public subscription list for the Assink triplets. Various people have decided to take a practical interest in Mrs Margaret Assink. the 21-year-old mother of five children. Already the Whakatane Plunket Society has organised knitting circles to make clothes for the children. The hospital says; “They are perfectly normal youngsters and are doing" well. Their regimen is that of any other healthy children.”
