THAN 1949 The preliminary count in the Gened Election indicates that about 80.7 per cent of the eligible votes were cast on Saturday; with about 80,000 declaration, absentee, postal and seamen's votes still to be counted, the final percentage will be about 87.4. These calculations are based on figures received from Wellington. In 1949, the percentage of European votes cast on election day was 86.12, and the final percentage was about 91. The roll for this election totalled 1206,480, compared with 1,148,758 in 1949. The preliminary count, including Maori votes, this year, was as fol-
