WOOL MARKETING SCHEME
N.Z. Board Preparing Fresh Proposals ANNOUNCEMENT BY CHAIRMAN
(New Zealand Press Associanon)
WELLINGTON. August 31. A wool marketing proposal for New Zealand only, as an alternative to the Post-Joint Organisation, would be formulated on behalf of the industry by the New Zealand Wool Board, said the chairman of the board (Mr N. R. Jameson) to-day.
“The board investigated several alternative plans, and decided to recommend the one it considered most practicable to the annual meeting of its electoral committee yesterday.” said Mr Jameson. “The board presented several principles on which a possible scheme could be established, and these were fully discussed bv the committee.
“The committee passed a resolution asking the board to develop a plan along the lines of the proposals submitted.
Nothing final will be done until full consultations have been held with the industry on the board’s pro - 'osed scheme, which, of necessity, will be limited to New Zealand. The New Zealand woolgrowers are well-informed and organised and have had greater experience of the value of a wool marketing plan than growers in most other countries. . "T^ e Wool Board was disappointed a. the reaction of the Australian growers. the referendum on the post J.O. scheme. We have been associated for years with the idea of a marketing scheme, and have spent a considerable amount of time in conferences and in endeavouring to formulate a plan to take the place of the Joint Organisation, which has so successfully protected the growers during the last five years.”
