VITAL STATISTICS IN CHRISTCHURCH
Sixty-six fewer marriages were notified to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Christchurch last month than in August of last year. The number of births and deaths last month was slightly greater than a year ago. The statistics for last month, with those for August of last year in narnnthesis. are:— births, 344 (340); deaths, 210 (198); marriages, 129 (175); marriages bv registrar, 22 <42). The figures for the first eight months of the year, with those of the corresponding period of last year in parenthesis. are: births, 2741 (2748); deaths, 1391 (1307); marriages. 1125 (1201); marriages bv registrar, 230 (267). LAWNMOWER SERVICE Now is the time to have that blunt lawnmower or motor mower sharpened.
