JET PLANES IN USE NEXT YEAR

(Rec. 8.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 31. Canadian Pacific Airlines will be operating a jet airliner service between Sydney and Honolulu by October, 1952. . ... Announcing this, the chief liaison engineer of the De Havilland Aircraft Company (Mr D. H. Edwards) said that De Havilland Comet airliners would cover the 5075 miles in about 10 hours, with one stop at Fiji. Passengers to America would leave the Comet at Honolulu and change to Douglas DC6B airliners for the rest of the journey. . The Comets will be based at Sydney where servicing arrangements have been completed. . This is expected to be the first jet service in the Southern Hemisphere.
