The appointment has been announced from the French Legation in Wellington of Mr Guillaume PaulBoncour as the successor to Mr Lucien Guillen as French Trade Commissioner in New Zealand. Mr Paul-Bon-cour is now Trade Commissioner in Mexico. He will return to France before he takes up his new post. It is not expected that he will arrive in New Zealand until early next year. His father was Prime Minister of France and Foreign Minister in several Cabinets.—(P.A.)
Professor R. Harris has resigned from the chair of conservative dentistry at the Otago Dental School. Professor Harris, who was editor of the “Dental Journal of Australia,” took up his position at the school at the beginning of the year. He was an honorary consulting dental surgeon at the United Dental Hospital of Sydney. The resignation will take effect at the end of the present academic year The Rev. W. T. Blight, of Papanui, was elected district chairman of the Methodist Church in North Canter l bury at the annual synod. The secretary, the Rev. H. E. HarknesS. was re-elected, and was also appointed as district representative on the standing committee of the annual conference of the' church.
Messrs L. A. Bennett, and E. A. Adams w'ere re-elected chairman and treasurer respectively of the Canterbury. Westland, Nelson, Marlborough division of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society at the annual meeting of the division yesterday.
Mr W. H. Down, of Christchurch, who has been secretary of the New Zealand Hockey Association for 27 years, was unanimously elected a life member of the association at a special meeting of delegates to the association in Christchurch last evening.
