A FINE EXAMPLE

A fine example of sustained high production is given by a ewe which has become something of a celebrity in the top end of the Malvern district. She has just given birth to levins, and brought her tally of lambs up to 23. She is a Romney halfbred, now nine years old, and lambed first as a hogget. The twins this year were her fifth set. She has produced in addition .three sets of triplets. The ewe runs on the downs above Glenroy, and thus can be said to have no particular advantages in the way of feed to help her, but her performance is even more meritorious than the production of mere numbers. All except one of her lambs, which died very young, have gone off her fat. Last season her triplets killed out at 44, 46, and 561 b, without any feed beyond grass, and what their mother provided. Most of the lambs have been by Suffolk rams.
