TRACK WORK AT ELLERSLIE

: ANOTHER SOLID EFFORT BY AKBAR "The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, August 30. Akbar did another very solid gallop in preparation for the Avondale Cup on the first day of the Avondale Jockey Club’s spring meeting on Wed--1 nesday when he beat Peter Boy and J Ruling Master over a round of the No. 3 grass at Ellerslie this morning. Peter Boy is also in the Avondale Cup. Ruling Master is not engaged on • Wednesday. He is to race in the ■ Kingsland Hurdles on the second day. Silver Blue ran half a mile freely. < So did Sierra. The going was heavy. • Akbar (Bagby) was just ahead of Peter Boy (Hughes), with Ruling Master beaten off, at the end of a round in Imin 47 2-ssec. Akbar went ahead from the start. Near the three furlongs the pace quickened and • Peter Boy drew level. Akbar gained t the lead again in a few strides and 1 he continued to gallop strongly right ! to the end. He was timed to cover i the last seven furlongs in Imin 39sec, • six in Imin 23 l-ssec, and three in i 41 2-ssec. It was a very good gallop : “on the part of both Akbar and Peter .. Silver Blue (Markwick) was allowed to ease up over the last stages of half a mile in 54 3-ssec. Silver Blue is in the Sheriff Handicap, six furlongs, on Wednesday. His recent racing has been over seven furlongs and a mile, and he has not been over six furlongs since April 10 last year, when he finished unplaced in the Huia Handicap at ' Ellerslie. His last placing, a second, was two starts back in the Members' Handicap, seven furlongs, at Pukekohe, on August 4, when he finished a nose behind the winner. Nom de Plume, and appeared unlucky. Fergus's stable, and has had one start, having run unplaced in the second division of the Juvenile Handicap at Te Aroha on February 24. Viscount is owned by Mr A J. Court. Regal Simon (Carlton) and Eclaire (Medcaife) kept together while running five furlongs in Imin 9sec. After a slow beginning. Counterpart (Markwick) was timed to cover five furlongs in Imtn 12 2-ssec. She speeded up over the last three furlongs in 42 2-ssec. Empire Princess (Tremain) did five furlongs in Imin 11 l-ssec. Good Track Galloper Argent (Stenning) went ahead right at the end to beat Hillcrest (Tremain) ovei five furlongs in Imin 8 3-ssec Argent u a good track galloper. Pixie Belle (W. Frisbie) and Fpresl Belle (C. Frisbie) kept together while ■ “'covering five furlongs in Imin 12sec. After a slow beginning over the first furlong. Sierra (Hughes) did well to complete half a mile in 54 l-ssec. ; Vice Regal (Mills) went easily over hall * mile in 57sec. Carrying a heavy-weight. Soeur de -Beau was confidently nacKeo in the M. B. Bergin Handicap at Foxton last Saturday, and the Beau Repaire mare won as she liked. She ran to the front near the home turn and drew right away, being unchallenged over the last furlong. Soeur de Beau is a sister to the Rfccarton champion, Beaumaris, and the useful Beau Rosa. She is bred from the unraced Mabel Rose, a half-sister to the Derby winner.
