R. CARRICK RETAINS N.Z. TITLE

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 31. Beating L. Stout (Wellington) by 587 points to 533, R. Carrick (Auckland) retained his New Zealand billiards title when the final was decided to-night. The championship was played on the aggregate points system, and Stout would have had to beat Carrick by 835 points to take the title.

Both players adopted safe tactics, and scored mainly from top-of-the-table play. Carrick's best breaks were 49, 77, 55, and 68. Stout had a break of 78.

A. Albertson was in good form against J. J. Shepherd, and with a break of 97 took the prize for the best break by a player other than the finalists. He beat Shepherd by 675 points to 468. Shepherd had a break of 81.

E. V. Roberts (Auckland) beat J. Proctor (Southland), 664-487. Roberts had a break of 75 and Proctor a 43.

The trophies were presented by Mr E. Prince, president of the New Zealand Billiards Council,

INTER-CLUB TOURNEY

The leading teams tn section one and two/ in the inter-club billiards tournament C grade competition. Sumner Bowling Club and Post and Telegraph, played off during the week, and P. and T. won by two games to one.

Scores:—P. and T. (L. White 97, W. Prince 150 ( 39), R. Jones 150) beat Sumner Bowling (F Jack 150, H. Williama 104 (38), A. Taylor 110).
