COAL PRODUCTION IN N.S.W.
NEED FOR MORE LABOUR
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) (Rec. 10 pirn.) SYDNEY, August 31. Though New South Wales coal production this year will be about 13 000 000 tons, it will be about 3,500.000 tons below demand, according to the Minister of National Production (Senator W. H. Spooner). He said there was a tendency to overlook the fact that the principal reason for the lack of coal was That there were insufficient workers in the industry. A recent survey indicated the manpower shortage in the coal industry to be 3374 men. The filling of these vacancies could increase coal production by 250,000 tons a year. “Experience indicates that emCloyees can be obtained if adequate ousing is provided in the coal mining areas,” he added.
