COMPENSATION COURT
MINE WORKER’S CLAIM SUCCEEDS
Judgment was delivered by Judge Ongley in the Compensation Court yesterday on a claim for compensation bv Victor Charles Edward Mori, aged 41, a mine worker, of Runanga. The claim arose from an injury caused to Mori’s back in August, 1949, when he was employed by the Mines Department. Compensation was sought on the basis of loss of Warnings.
The case was heard in Greymouth on July 12 and in Christchurch on July 20. Mr W. D. Taylor appeared for Mori, and Mr F. A. Kitchingham for the Mines Department. In his judgment, Judge Onglev allowed Mori 70 per cent, of full compensation, to be commuted into a lumn sum and paid forthwith. At the time of his injury, Mori was employed as a shiftman in the Ruhanga State Mine, and his earnings were £l3 18s 9d a week. “The suppliant’s loss of earnings in anv light work he can do will be about half his pre-accident earnings,” said Judge Ongley in his decision. “It is at best only an estimate, but I think he is entitled to 70 per cent, of full compensation, to be commuted into a lump sum and paid forthwith.**
