MR NASH SPEAKS AT AUCKLAND
AUDIENCE WILDLY ENTHUSIASTIC 3000 IN THEATRE, 2000 TURNED AWAY (New Zealana Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 30. A wildly-enthusiastic audience gave the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) a tumultuous reception when he spoke in the Civic Theatre to-night. About 3000 filled the theatre and basement cabaret. When the doors were closed soon after 7.30 p.m. some 2000 more were shut out. Many remained to listen to Mr Nash's address relayed through loud-speakers. The Auckland Watersiders’ Silver Band gave a recital before the meeting began. Mr Nash received musical honours inside and outside the theatre on his arrival, and a group of Maoris in the crowded cabaret gave a haka. Very few interjectors were audible above the cheers and applause of the crowd as Mr Nash reviewed his party’s policy. A vote of thanks and confidence 'in Mr Nash as future Prime Minister was carried, with one dissentient voice. The meeting ended with further cheers, and when Mr Nash left the theatre, police had to make a passage for him and later for his car through a crush of admirers.
