OFFICIAL FORECASTS "The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. August 30. The weather forecast for Canterbury Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours after the time of issue, is:— S tuation: a weak ridge of high pressure is over northern New Zealand, ard pressures are verv low to the ■cuth of the country. Forecast: moderate to fresh north to north-east winds, turning south-westerly and decrea .i'g slowly dvring the afterroon: some showers in the alps and a brief period of more general showers with the wind change, otherwise weather fair; cool to moderate temperatures. Outlook: fair to fine. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to fresh north to northwest winds, tending westerly at night; weather unsettled, with periods of ta n or showers; cool temperatures. Outlook: occasional showers. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After a frost of 4.8 degrees, the day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a maximum temperature of 50 degrees. At midnight the sky was clear and a light east-north-east wind was blowing. The temperature was 40.0 degrees, and the barometer, at 29.838
