BATTERY BUILT INTO SADDLE
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN GALLOPER (N.ZJ’.A.—Reuter— Copj/ripht) ADELAIDE, August 30. South Australian Jockey Club stewards found a battery skilfully built into a 31b saddle at a race meeting after a horse which had never previously won a race had come first in the Novice Handicap. Officials with experience of batteries said it was the neatest job they had seen in 20 years. The horse. Chatalot, ridden by R. J. Jackman, withstood a careful check before the race. , Afterwards the stewards used a knife to rip tho saddle to pieces. They found
four tiny dry cells connected to a coll and an intricate system of covered and naked wires.
Chatalot was disqualified and an inquiry was opened.
