COAL MINE IDLE YESTERDAY

WAGdON SHORTAGE ON WEST COAST (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, August 30. Because coal stocks have not been cleared, one co-operative coal mine closed down to-day and others in the Rewanui area may have to shut down. The mine idle yesterday was that of Williams and party. The mine has had no trucks since last week, and its bins are full, even after trimming.

Other mines in the region also have almost completely filled bins, and the employees were engaged in trimming to-day. There is little room for more coal in them. - If no waggons are received within a day or so, the mines will not be able to open next week. The congestion at the co-operative mines would be eased to-morrow, said an official of the Railways Department to-day. Waggons would be sent to the mines overnight to take the built-up coal stocks. It was explained that the demand for State coal for the unusually large number of vessels working the port this week had compelled the department to concentrate on transhipping coal from these major collieries.
