HIGHER BUTTER SUBSIDY
EFFECT OF INCREASED BUTTER FAT PRICE (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 30. The subsidy on butter under the new nrice system which both political parties have promised will come into operation on Monday will rise from IOJd per lb to Is 2d, but the new'guaranteed price announced to-night means a further increase, raising the subsidy on each pound consumed in New Zealand to Is 6d. It is estimated that the new guaranteed nrice for butterfat will increase the subsidy by about £1,000,000 to £3,000.000. Experts said to-night that without a subsidy and in a free market the domestic price of butter would probably be 3s 2d per lb.
