PUERTO RICAN REBEL
(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico), Aug. 29. The Nationalist leader. Pedro Albizu Campos, was sentenced to-day to 12 to 54 years' imprisonment with hard labour on charges of seeking to overthrow the Government of Puerto Rico by force. Campos previously had been sentenced to from 17 to 24 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder and the illegal use of arms during the three-day Nationalist uprising which began on October 30 and in which 30 persons were killed.
Jananese Diplomat in London.—Mr Loichiro Asakai, head of the new Japanese Agency in London, arrived by air from Tokyo to-day. He is the first official representative of the Japanese Government to come to London since before the war and will hold a position regarded as equivalent to a consul-general.—London, August 30.
