DROVE CAR WHEN DISQUALIFIED
FINES OF £l5O ON AUCKLAND MAN
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 29. For driving his motor-car while disqualified, Herbert Charles Fletcher, aged 43, a motor engineer, was fined £l5O in the Magistrate’s Court today. Mr H. Jenner Wily, S.M., described the offences as a deliberate flouting of the order of the Court. He prohibited Fletcher from obtaining another driving licence except through a Court order.
Both charges were admitted. The police said that Fletcher was seen by a constable driving his car erratically in Upper Queen street at 1.30 a.m. on July 16. He smelt of liquor, but was not intoxicated. Later it was discovered that he was a disqualified driver. He had appeared before the Court m January last for a second offence of being intoxicated while driving, was then sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, disqualified as a driver for three ’'ears, and fined £2O for driving while disqualified. On August 11 Fletcher was seen in his car in Fanshawe street, and admitted he had been driving.
The Magistrate fined Fletcher £5O for the July offence and £lOO for the second, in August.
