FIREARMS SAFETY
Sir, —The statement of the Commissioner of Police, printed on August 25, contains dangerous errors. Clauses 3 and 4 imply that late model LeeEnflald MMqr-catehM Me Mie whan
full-cocked. That is not so. Late model safety-catches will reverse to "fire” if the striker is bumped; then the supposedly safe rifle will discharge on accidental trigger pressure, a deceptive death trap. Clause 10 advises carrying a loaded, hammer shot-gun at full-cock; then, if dropped, bumped, or the trigger accidentally pressed, it will discharge. Clause 11 advises carrying a loaded shotgun “broken open”; then, if you fall, the gun will snap shut and discharge. The positive danger caused by such erroneous advice from an official source cannot be exaggerated. I positively refute it. —Yours, etc., MATT. GRANT. August 2Sb
