THE ELECTION

Sir,—According to the Labour Party the National Party put the Wahine on the rocks. Mr Nasn states that compensation should be paid to all members of the reinforcement for the loss of personal kit. When troops were carried on her during the war, did the Labour Government install radar in the Wahine? How much compensation did the Labour Party pay members of the services for the fires in the officers’ mess in Japan and the W.A.A.F.’s barracks In Worser Bay, Wellington? In these cases, members of the services lost hundreds of pounds—Yours, etc., WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE. August 29, 1951.'.

Sir,—l attended Mr Holyoake’s meeting last evening and consider that he gave one of the best political addresses that I have heard in my long experience. He had a large audience which applauded and cheered him, and which appreciated not only his ability, but his sincerity and the telling way he made his points. When reading the report of the meeting which appeared in your paper this morning, I was amazed to find that your reporter picked out all these unfavourable features of the meeting and neglected many of the favourable ones. I consider that your report was not worthy of “The Press” and gave an entirely misleading picture of what happened at the meeting.—Yours, etc., W.H.D. August 29, 1951.
