AVONDALE STAKES CANDIDATE

The two-year-aide, Sleipnir and Fo’c’ele, displayed good form at Trentham this morning in preparation for the Avondale Stakes on the first day of the Avondale meeting next Wednesday. They galloped on the two-year-old track, which war slow. Sleipnir (P. Spratt’ and Fo’c’s’e (J. McFarlane) jumped away from the three furlongs two lengths ahead of Momentum (W. Ryder). They remained together tor two furlongs, but Sleipnir then drew away and neat his stablemate by two lengths, with a length to Momentum, and recorded 39 4-ssec. Sleipnir is a well-developed colt by Gold Nib out of Valpos, dam of Beaufighter, Bosun, and Beauta. He is a ready-made galloper and has a good action. He should race well in the first division of the Avondale Stakes. Fo’c’sle, which is engaged in the second division, will form a strong bracket with Sleipnir. He is a handsome chestnut colt by Peak Halyard out of Congregate, thus a brother to the promising galloper Flotilla.

Fo’c’sle and Sleipnir, both of which are owned by Mr J. H. Marshall, will leave for Auckland in company with Scorned on Friday. C. H. Mackie will ride Sleipnir and Scorned in the Avondale engagements. No rider has been secured yet for Fo’c’sle. Ashburton Racing Club Entries
