NEW DRIVE TO BEGIN SOON The Army will begin a new drive early next month for ,*ecruits—both men and women—for the Regular Army. The campaign, which will be held in cities and towns throughout Southern Military District until mid-December, will consist of a week of intensified advertising, followed by a visit by Captain R. J. Adams, accompanied by a non-commissioned officer, to interview prospective recruits. The advertising campaign will include newspaper articles, classified advertising, screen slides and window displays. Follow-up visits will be made bv Captain Adams to towns with populations of 5000 or more once a month, and to smaller towns as may be necessary. Captain Adams said yesterday that the Army would endeavour to show in the campaign that the new wages scale for Regular Army personnel compared very favourably with wages in other careers. Where recruits had good civilian qualifications the “star” system used by the Army made wages attrac-

tive from the start of recruits’ service. To young men the Army offered the inducement of trade training. Captain Adams said that in Southern Military District there were vacancies for 150 recruits in all trades and departments. There was a need for experienced non-commissioned officers, particularly in armoured and radio units. Clerks, cooks, stewards and storemen were wanted for the Women’s Army Corps.
