TRUCE TALKS IN KOREA
Enemy’s New Note To U.N. (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 1130 p.m.) TOKYO, Aug. 28. Communist and Allied officers met for 10 seconds in a village in the Kaesong neutral zone for the handing over of North Korea’s latest Note on the suspended cease-fire talks. “This is for General Ridgway,” said a North Korean officer handing the Note to an Allied officer. It is believed to be the official transcript of the message broadcast by the Peking Radio yesterday demanding that General Ridgway send liaison officers to Kaesong for a new investigation of the Allied bombing there. The Note was transmitted to General Ridgway in Tokyo. He is authoritatively expected to maintain the firmest attitude towards the Communist charges, but to repeat his willingness to resume the talks.
