ELECTIONS IN KASHMIR
Pro-India Party Sure To Win (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 28. The Srinagar correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says Kashmir, with only three days remaining before nominations close for Kashmir’s Constituent Assembly, is already certain that Sheik Abdullah’s pro-India National Conference Party will have an overwhelming victory. The elections are being pressed forward against the Security Council’s wishes and heedless’ of Pakistan's vigorous protests and threats. The Assembly is expected to endorse Kashmir’s accession to India. The National Conference Party’s candidates are now likely to be unopposed in 80 of the 75 seats.
The Hindu Party candidates will oppose the other seats. Two of them are expected to advocate accession to Pakistan on economic grounds.
