WAR WEAPONS RESEARCH

NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN U.S.

WASHINGTON, August 27. Senator Joseph O’Mahoney (Democrat, Wyoming) said to-day that United States research scientists were opening a new doorway of scientific warfare with developments dwarfing those of World War II which brought the atom bomb. He made the statement to reporters after a closed meeting of the Senate Appropriations Sub-Committee, which he heads, in hearings on the Armed Services Appropriation BilL He said that “the evidence of scientific strides came from high defence officials.

Expressing satisfaction with the American weapons research programme Senator O’Mahoney said: “Guided missiles, pilotless planes, and atomic weapons, far more than those we have had, are already here. Scientific and technological advances, particularly in the field of electronics, are opening a new door of scientific warfare not even imagined in World War II.”
