Press Attack On Consulates
(NS. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 pjn.) TEHERAN, Aug. 28. “Shahed,” the newspaper of the Persian Prime Minister (Dr. Mussadiq) •®-®ay deß *anded the closing of all British consulates in Persia except the one in Teheran.
. It described the Consulates as “centres of intrigue” and said that since Persia had only one consulate in Britain (m London), Britain should have on ly one in Persia. There are 13 British Consulates in Person provincial areas. Tn® newspaper also demanded that the Prune Minister send a protest Note to Britain against the presence of British warships off Abadan. This should be coupled with a protest to the United Nations, saying that these warships discouraged potential customers of the National Iranian Oil Company from coming ,to Abadan for oil supplies. ‘‘ Sha |} ed ” also urged that Dr. Mussadiq protest to Iraq against the presence of British warships in Iraq waters, and British troops on Iraq territory. If Iraq continued to allow British military forces to use her territory, Peraa stwu ld threaten to evacuate the 750,000 Persians in Iraq, close down all Persian schools in Iraq, and break off diplomatic relations.
