The Rt. Hon. Thibaudeau Rinfret, Chief Justice of Canada, is unlikely to visit New Zealand, apart from a call at Auckland on his way from Sydney to Vancouver. Mr Rinfret collapsed while he was visiting Melbourne recently.—(P.A.)
The Suffragan Bishop of Kensington (the Rt. Rev. Cyril Eastaugh) arrived in Wellington yesterday from Napier. He is staying at Government House. He will leave Wellington tomorrow on the first stage of his return to England.—(P.A.) Mr D. J.’ Benney, B.Sc.. of Wellington, and Mr P, C. Cotton, 8.A., of Lower Hutt, have been nominated for Rhodes Scholarships by the professorial board of Victoria University College.—(P.A.)
Professor C. A. Cotten, of Victoria University College, has been appointed to represent the college at the nineteenth International Geological Congress in Algiers next year—(P.A.) Mr M. B. Miller, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company. Ltd., returned to Wellington yesterday from a business visit to Australia.— (P.A.)
The appointment of the Rev. W. E. Falkingham. Methodist city missioner in Christchurch, as chaplain to mental hosnitals, was announced at the annual synod of. the Methodist Church in North Canterbury yesterday. Constable A. R. Randall, who has been in charge of the Islington station will retire from the police force early next month. He first joined the force at Auckland in 1913, but left to take up other work during World War I. He rejoined the force at Christchurch in 1922, and he has been stationed at Hokitika and Collingwood, and from there he was posted to Islington seven years ago. -
