OFFICIAL FORECASTS 1 "The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. The weather forecast for Canterbury Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours after the time of issue, is:— Situation: a low pressure trough covers New Zealand, and a deep de-p-ession is approaching the South Island from the south-west. Forecast: moderate to fresh north to north-east winds, becoming strong at times on the eoast; weather fair to cloudy; moderate temperatures. Outlook fof Thursday: a temporary change to south-westerlies, with coastal showers. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to fresh north to northwest winds; weather cloudy to overcast, with periods of rain; cooler temperatures. Outlook for Thursday: weather becoming temporarily fair.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a maximum temperature of 53.4 degrees. At midnight the sky was cloudy, and there was a light wind from the east-north-east. The temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer, at 29.737 Inches (1007 millibars), was falling.
