RATE OF WORK AT NAPIER
20 PER CENT. INCREASE REPORTED
(New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, August 27. The president of the New Zealand Shipowners’ Federation (Mr K. McLeay) to-day denied the statement by Mr F, W. Spite, general manager in New Zealand for the New Zealand Shipping Company, that work at all New Zealand ports except Auckland had shown no improvement since the strike.
“This is a grave injustice to the members of the new union at Napier, where the rate of handling cargo on coastal vessels has shown a very material increase, in some cases in excess of 20 per cent,” Mr McLeay said.
