PLEASANT POINT "The Press" Special Service TIMARU, August 27. About 170 head of mixed quality fat cattle were offered at the Pleasant Point sale to-day. There were too many for the trade to absorb and values eased for best steer and secondary quality heifer beef. The few store and dairy cattle sold well. More than two races of fat sheep included quality woolly wethers and ewes and a proportion of shorn sheep. The mixed yarding of store sheep created the most buoyant demand for many months. Values were:—
Fat Cattle.—Prime heavy steers, £2B 7s 6d to £32 17s 6d; prime steers, £26 17s 6d to £27 7s 8d; light steers, £24 2s 6d to £25 17s fid. Prime heifers, £22 7s 6d to £27 17s fid; light to medium heifers, £l7 7s 6d to £2O 2s 6d.
Prime Cows.—Heavy, £2B 2s 6d to £3O 7s 6d; medium cows, £l7 7s 6d to £l9 17s fid; light cow*. £l2 2s fid to £l4 2s
Store Cattle.—Yearling steera and heifers. £l2 10s to £l5 s*; two-year steers, £l6 2s 6d to £l9 7* 6d; dairy cows and heifer*. £l2 10* to £l7. Fat Sheep.—Be»t fat ewes (shorn), 37s id to 42* id: best fat ewes (in wool). 71* id to 75s id: light to medium. 58* Id to 65s 4d.
Best wethers (shorn), 58* 4d to 63* Id; best woolly wether*, 95* Id to 104* Id; light to medium woolly wether*. 75* Id to 87s 4d. <
Store Sheep.—Extra good Romney cross ewe hoggets (in wool), 96s to Ills; medium Romney cross ewe hoggets (In wool), to 745; small woolly wether hoggets, to 58s; shorn ewe hoggets. 52s to 63s 8d: shorn wether hoggets, 46s to 32s 6d.
