TAXI SERVICE IN CHRISTCHURCH
DISCUSSION BY LOCAL BODIES’ ASSOCIATION
The taxi service provided at the Christchurch Railway station on Thursday night was “very poor,” said Mr D. H. Cockburn (Queenstown) at a meeting of the executive of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association. He asked that local members of the association should make inquiries, so that the matter could be discussed at a later meeting of the association.
He and other passengers on the train had been forced to wait an unreasonable time for a taxi at the station, said Mr Cockburn. The situation was so bad that it gave a very poor impression. Mr A. T. Newman (Gore) said he had arrived by the south express, and had travelled to the city by a bur which had picked up only three passengers. The bus had not waited long enough to pick up any more passengers. The express was late, however, and the bus was probably running to a time-table, he said. i
